Will the Pet Porte work with my cats microchip?

The Pet Porte microchip cat flap's RFID (radio frequency identity) scanner WORKS just like your vet's handheld scanner. It "talks to" all European ISO pet microchips including:

Please check your cats microchip number is compatible using the instant online Chip Checker service.

If your cats are not microchipped yet (for instance if you have a new kitten) please have them chipped with Bayer Tracer (best read range) or Identichip (very good read range). Other 15 digit European microchips will work fine as well. Please avoid the Biotherm temperature chip as it does not work with the microchip cat flap.

Pet Porte has one of the largest doors of any cat flap making it the best choice if you have larger cats including Maine Coon cats and Norwegian Forest cats. It's also suitable for puppies and small sized dogs.

The size of the door that your cat goes through is 19.5cm wide by 25cm high.

The outer case of the cat flap measures 19.5cm wide by 25cm high and is 4.3cm deep.

The porch is 19.5cm wide by 14.2cm long and 3.7cm deep. That's about the size of a CD case.

The size of the hole you need to make for fitting is 18.3cm wide by 19.4cm high for a door or wall fitting. For glass fitting the size should be 18.3cm wide and 21.5cm high. You must leave 2cm below (clear of any skirting boards).

The minimum thickness for your door or window is 2 cm.

If you are ordering the wall version please note that the maximum width of your wall can be approx 38cm or 15 inches.

Wall tunnel pieces are each 4cm deep, so if your wall is 10" thick you would need to order 7 wall tunnel pieces and cut one of them down using the break points.

Yes! The microchip cat flap is big enough for small dogs and puppies too. The size of the hole is 18.3cm wide by 19.4cm high. A larger dog version of the microchip cat flap may be made available in the future (at an undisclosed date).

Is the microchip cat flap easy to fit?

Yes. It is just as easy to fit as most other cat flaps. It will require two people (one each side) for some of the time. When choosing the location you wish to fit it please note that it is easier to fit in a door than a wall and easier to fit in a wall than in double glazed glass.

What power source does Pet Porte use?

In order to provide the best reliability Pet Porte runs on a 12v power supply provided by a low voltage adaptor you simply plug in. This allows for continuous scanning and ensures that the door will open as quickly as possible (in as little as 1/20th of a second) - if your cat needs to run inside.

The only drawback of the high speed scanning is that Pet Porte will not work in a power cut. If you are in an area where power cuts are common you can use an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS)* - the same kind of device used to power computers if there is a power cut. They can be obtained inexpensively from electronics stores and can power the Pet Porte microchip cat flap for many hours.

* We only recommend this solution if you are in an area where power cuts are common.

Yes. It can - although this is more difficult than fitting in a door or wall because you will need to have a panel of double glazing made with a hole 8.3cm wide and 21.5cm high. An increasing number of glazing companies are able to do this including Impact Glazing in Northants (covering the Midlands) and London 24 Hour Glazing (covering London and Home Counties).

Can I leave the microchip cat flap on whilst we go on holiday?

Yes absolutely! If someone is looking after your cats the Pet Porte microchip cat flap really comes in handy because you can put the night mode on and know that it will always lock at night and unlock in the morning but your cats will always be able to get inside. You will know that no other cats are getting inside and causing any damage to your home so you can enjoy your holiday in complete peace of mind.

This function makes it far easier for any friends, neighbours, or relatives to come around to your house while you're away and look after your cats. This saves a lot of money compared to putting your cats into a cattery for short breaks!

Can I change the length of time the door stays open for?

Yes! If your cat is being chased inside by other cats you can reduce the length of time the Pet Porte door will stay open after scanning your cats microchip - down to as little as 1 second if necessary. You can also adjust the length of time to longer if your cat takes a long time coming through or if you are installing the Pet Porte in a long wall tunnel.

Can other cats pull it open outwards or bash it open?

No. The unique design of the Pet Porte microchip cat flap means that it is nearly impossible for a cat to paw the door open towards them because there is nothing for them to stick their claws into (no foam padding for example) and there is nothing for them to latch their claws under or through. Together with the RFID-scanning this makes it the most secure cat flap currently available.

The unique design also makes it much less likely for your cat to get their paws or tail stuck in the door as can happen with other kinds of cat flaps. This is due to the smooth rounded edge of the flap which is a registered design.

There are no foam or rubber parts so would-be intruder cats will not be able to pull it open towards them.

This video clip shows how strong the cat flap is. The neighbours cat in the video tried for 25 minutes unsuccessfully to get in whilst the owners cat enjoyed a bowl of tasty cat food the other side of the door uninterrupted.

Can you change the time that the night mode locks the door?

Yes! Pet Porte works using light levels rather than a fixed time. So simply set the door to lock after it gets past a certain darkness and unlock once it gets lighter than that level. You only need to programme the light level into the cat flap's memory once (best to do this by getting up in the morning just as it gets light enough for your cats to go out) then the cat flap will automatically adjust with each change in the season!

Can Pet Porte keep some cats in but let other cats out?

No. The Pet Porte cannot keep some of your cats in but allow others out. The selective entry/exit is only currently available on the outside of the PetPorte.

What the Pet Porte will do is let some cats IN (your cats) and keep other cats OUT (stray cats or neighbour's cats).

Once a cat is inside it will be free to go back outside unless the cat flap is in vet mode or night mode in which case the door will be locked keeping your cats safely inside.

In theory you could fit the Pet Porte back to front but please be aware that would allow any other cats to get inside.

Do you deliver to the USA, Canada, or rest of world?

Yes with pleasure! The microchip cat flap comes with a UK or European transformer only. Therefore you would need to source your own 12v power supply with the correct sized adaptor. It must be a solid state transformer rather than the switched mode type.

The microchip cat flap reads ISO type European microchips, not the old USA type microchips. Please check your cats microchip using the Chip Checker service before ordering to avoid disappointment.

The 18 month warranty and the 30 day risk free trial only applies within the United Kingdom.

Can I switch the "beep on entry" off?

Yes. If your cat is very timid, or you just don't like the beep when your cat is detected, you can easily switch it off with the touch of one button. You can switch it back on again if you wish just as easily.
