The Cat Flap For Cat Lovers
Activated by your cat’s pre-existing microchip
The Pet Porte microchip cat flap magically unlocks for your cats only by sensing their
pre-existing microchip implant that the vet put implanted under the skin of their neck in
order to check their identity.
You don’t have to supply us with the microchip numbers and you don’t have to manually
key them in. You simply program your cat’s microchip numbers into the cat flap by
pressing the green programming button and lifting your cat up to the sensor.
It doesn’t open for any other cat – even other cats that are microchipped!
The Pet Porte cat flap “talks to” all European 15 digit ISO pet microchips including:
- Bayer Tracer Advance
- Identichip Standard (Not Biotherm)
- Pet Log
- Virbac
- AEG
- Jecta
- Most other European 15 digit microchips are also compatible.
It does not work with:
- Identichip Biotherm*
- AVID**
If you don’t know the make of microchip you can check your cats microchip number
with our Chip Checker before you order your Pet Porte Smart Flap here.
If your cats are not microchipped yet (for instance if you have a new kitten) that’s good news because you can have them chipped with Bayer Tracer Advance (for the best read range) or Identichip (very good read range). The Pet Porte Smart Flap is optimised to work with these chips which it can sense from up to eight inches distance and in as little as 1/20th of a second!
If your cat has an old style 10 digit microchip that was fitted many years ago it will not work with the Pet Porte range of microchip cat flaps so you have two options. Either you can sew a new Bayer Tracer Advance chip into a cat collar – or you could find a vet who would be willing to re-chip your cat with a new Bayer Tracer Advance chip which would take over from the old 10 digit microchip. We only recommend Bayer Tracer Advance chips for that purpose. Some vets will not re-chip cats unless there are exceptional circumstances such as other cats coming in and causing your cat distress.
* Please avoid the Biotherm temperature chip as it does not work with the microchip cat flap. If your cat has a Biotherm chip we would recommend sewing a Bayer Tracer Advance chip into a collar and putting it on your cat to allow your cat to use the Pet Porte microchip cat flap.
** We do not recommend AVID as some customers have reported read range difficulties with those chips. If your cat has a pre-existing AVID chip then you could take advantage of our 30 day risk-free trial to find out if the cat flap will read your cat’s microchip or not.
