The Pet Porte Smart Flap is one of the easiest to fit cat flaps on the market and has a whole
host of features that you cannot get with any other type of cat flap available today -
including the patented microchip activated locking mechanism and patented night sensor
that can automatically keep your cats in at night and let them out again in the morning.

Fitting your cat flap in glass

If you are installing the Pet Porte Smart Flap in any glass (single or double glazing is fine) simply ask a glazier to make a standard 212mm diameter circular hole. This makes the cat flap far cheaper to fit than other competing types of cat flaps and it will replace most standard cat flaps including Staywell and Cat Mate brands.

Wall cat flap installations

You can also fit the cat flap through a wall by drilling through a tunnel. A template is supplied with your cat flap so you know the exact dimensions. We suggest that you ring round local builders to find the best quote for installation in a wall.

If you are fitting in a wall please make sure you order the Pet Porte Smart Flap Wall Version. The only difference is the length of the wire from the inside controls to the outside sensor porch that scans your cat on the way through. The wall version must run on AC power so you will either need a power socket nearby or order one of our 5m cable extensions online.

If you would like a really neat installation you can use our special wall tunnel pieces available to order online. To calculate how many you will need minus 4cm from the depth of the wall and divide by 4cm. For example a 20cm deep wall will require (20-4)/4=4 wall tunnels. If you have any remainder then you will need to order one extra and cut it down to fit when installing.

The cheaper alternative to wall tunnel pieces is simply to board the tunnel out with plywood. Your cats won’t mind the difference. You can also build a wooden frame to attach the cat flap onto on both sides of the tunnel.

Installing your cat flap in a door

By far the easiest place to install your Pet Porte Smart Flap is in either a wood or UPVC door. Again consult our size FAQ for details of the hole you will need to make in the door. A template is supplied with the cat flap which you can copy to the door using a pencil and ruler.

Two people are required to install the microchip cat flap as one piece needs holding on the outside while the other person tightens the screws from the inside. Please make sure not to overtighten the bolts when fitting as this could cause the door to stick and not swing properly closed.

We also have an article on the website about how to install a cat flap should you need any further information.

Professional cat flap installation

If you are opting for professional installation please note that fitting prices can vary dramatically. We recommend that you seek out three quotes. Prices will vary according to what you are fitting the cat flap into and your geographic area.
